Shamrock in the crack

Happy St. Patrick Day!

I took Little Man for a walk around campus. As it is the end of Spring break, all of the parking lots are deserted, and he had a blast riding his bike on acres of asphalt. In the meantime, I was looking for things to photograph. I found a lot of cool plants in bloom and ant hills exploding with life, but nothing as cool as this green crack.

Nature is so patient with us. We cover acres of fertile soils with asphalt. It waits. The asphalt cracks. It waits. When the crack is sufficiently wide, the wind and water blow in some seeds which take root. And then they just take over whatever they can. Pretty cool, if you ask me.
