You Are My Sunshine!
Snow blobbies, Drippy Blippy and now the sun! Sun, blue sky, interesting clouds and sun. Cold sun, but sun. I don't get how sun can be cold. If the sun is shining on you, it's shining on you and it should be warm. That's what sun does...warms things up...but not this sun...it must have been an imposter. Hey, has anybody seen the real sun?
The little men that Mother Comfort requested for her housemates were delivered today. Each of the ladies was informed that the little man was a gift for them from Mother Comfort (except I used her real name because they are all older than she is and they'd never call her 'mother') and that she hoped they would give them an opportunity to play and use their imagination.
The first lady smiled sweetly and said (of Mother Comfort), "she's so sweet...she's so creative". She smiled broadly again, said thank you, and placed the little man on the table next to her. The second lady said, "I'm not much for fun" and asked me to put in on the table across the room. The third lady had significant dementia, took the little man and immediately began molding and shaping it. She didn't bother to look up at me again as she was thoroughly engaged in her play.
Sometimes our intellect gets in the way. The third lady has dementia, but it works for her. She still knows how to play and I've never heard her complain. Once we brought in ice cream cups. Besides Mother Comfort, she was the only one who accepted the ice cream. There are times when a childlike nature seems almost better than keeping all your faculties. Especially if you still remember how to play and you still like ice cream and you're not too proud, or too worried about your digestion working properly, to take it. You just eat the ice cream, play with the toys and then take a nap. You don't even have to hope everything turns out OK, you just don't give it a thought one way or the other. Some days that really doesn't seem so bad as long as the people who feed you the ice cream and bring you the toys are smiling too...and use their indoor voices.
