Los Tres Volcans una vez mas
The volcanos south of Albuquerque again. The city sits in a river valley and failed continental rift (the Rio Grande Rift). The volcanoes sit on a mesa to the west. The rift not only provided the dropped block to make the valley but also the heat to make the volcanoes. The one in the back is the Belen Volcano. The two up front are part of the Cat Hills, a chain of volcanoes very similar to the Albuquerque Volcanoes directly to the west of the city. All the volcanos in the picture are Quaternary in age. There is lots of Tertiary volcanism is the area also.
Taken with the new lens. We are beginning to become friends.
I am infatuated with the western horizon of Albuquerque.
