Fretting
Is this what you call the frets on the neck of a uke? Or just frets? As I make slow and steady progress in my twanging I realise there are some terms that I just don't know or don't know the difference between. I guess I'll ask at the next uke lesson.
There's the thing where you use your thumb and first finger to sort of pluck and the sound is less like a uke, more like a guitar - this is the one where I pretend I'm a classical guitarist like Segovia ;-)
There's the thing which I can't even describe. To play it you need to read tabs and the word 'riff' has been mentioned. I can play Ode to Joy and Love Me Tender in this way and it sounds fine. Again, a bit guitarish.
Thanks for all the comments on my posting about George yesterday. I had to smile at the number of times the word 'gent' or 'gentleman' cropped up. I wonder whether a true gent would have a bare-breasted cowgirl tattooed on his forearm? Apparently he had it done in India when pissed ;-)
I've just looked back and it was mentioned only three times - oh well ;-)
It's been a real do-nothing day today as we had two social engagements last night: dinner at a friends then on to a birthday party. Home at 2am.
