Westby Reservoir
As a special Mother's day treat I took Mrs RH (and the dog) for a walk this afternoon.
In the distance we could see Westby covered reservoir which was brought into service in February 1929, originally it had no roof, that was added about 50 years ago at a cost of £250,000 (about £4.4 million today). The reservoir holds 36 million gallons of water. Before the roof was added Fylde Water Board had to employ a full time seagull scarer.
Water is supplied to the reservoir from Stocks reservoir near Slaidburn via the 28 mile long Hodder Aqueduct.
