A foreign country

There it is, just across the water. You could kayak there, or swim even if you greased yourself up for the cold and had the strength and weren't intercepted by a border patrol. People have eyed it with mistrust and reverence, with longing and indifference. It's just an extension of the same geology as here, so what's the difference? Is it all in the mind?
