Spanish measure ..

Went to Guardamar today for a walk along the prom, didn't get very far as it was blowing a gale, took a few photos, the guy sunbathing!! mustn't feel the cold, everyone else was wrapped up against the cold.

Ended up in Rodero, ordered coffee and along came a couple of brandies as well, it was a shame to refuse them, so Roy and I sat and reminisced about our days at Crewe and Alsager College, paid the bill 7 euros for 2 coffees, 2 brandies and a plate of olives, not bad.

Now begins a rant.

It's Dennis's 65th birthday on Saturday, (not next door Dennis, another one), he and Glenys have invited 38 people to Portico Mar, the meal is 17.95 euros each, 3 courses including wine and water. G & D are throwing 200 euros into the kitty and the meal is also being discounted by 10%, so it works out to about 11 euros each.

So, instead of us on the Community bying individual presents, it was suggested we all put in 10 euros and when he goes the the US in May he can buy himself something. So tonight I went round all the neighbours, Dennis, Lil, Grahem and June gave me their money, knocked on the door of Irene and David and Irene said "why do we have to buy him anything, after all we are paying for our own meal and it will be an expensive night because people will be having G & T's etc, and the final bill will be divided by 38 so we could end up paying more than we want to" I explained that the meal is being discounted by 10% and that Dennis is putting 200 ? into the kitty to discount the end cost of the meal. Her reply was, 'I'll think about it and see you tomorrow', I was livid.

Dennis and Glenys didn't have to have a 'do' for his birthday, but being the nice people that they are they thought it would be good for everyone to get together, and after all you can't expect them to pay the whole bill, also people are invited back to their house for drinks afterwards.

But, that just about sums up the attitude of David and Irene (they are the ones that shouted at James last summer for making a noise in the pool at 12.05).

If people are that mean then they should decline the invitation.
