Ashmolean frieze

Had a wonderful day out in Oxford with a friend ,Sarah, who I knew at college (how many years ago) and who I haven't seen for many years. We caught up and picked up our friendship again. Very special time!

Had lunch in the newly refurbished Ashmolean museum amd a quick look round the Greek sculptures which she thought her Greek husband might balk at a bit -something about repatriation!

This was part of a larger temple frieze and I was taken with the degree of emotion expressed in this ancient carving. Somewhere between sensuousness and grief I thought.
