Inside The McManus
Mrs P and I planned a day in St Andrews. When we got there we found the Castle was half closed for electrical work, the Cathedral was closed for the day, and University Museum doesn't open on Tuesdays until April. A good job we weren't real paying tourists!
However we did have a cheap but good lunch at the Grill House Restaurant (in St Andrews) and then went to the McManus Gallery and Museum in Dundee.
Although we've lived just down the road in Perth for over 20 years, we've never got to like Dundee much. Even finding a car park was hard after coming from an unfamiliar direction. Car parks were signposted off the inner ring road, but as soon as we turned off the signs disappeared. Eventually we found one with no signposting at all. From there it was just a short walk to the museum, or would have been if there were any street names by the car park to orient by. Or a sign on the museum; fortunately I knew what it looked like. Come on Dundee, get a grip!
The museum was well worth the visit though. The highlight for me was the Errol Log Boat, a dug-out canoe 8.6m long and dating from 550 to 600 AD. My picture of it wasn't good though, so I've blipped one of the galleries instead.
