On Maple Creek

Snow Day

A surprise on March 13 that led to six days without power. Gratefully we had a wood stove, holding tanks of fresh water, a generator, gasoline and food.

We woke up in the morning to the biggest snow fall in years. At least a dozen towering alders down in the woods fell from the heavy weight, and large old laurels snapped over the driveway.

We spent the morning with neighbors clearing away trees along the road and the rest of the day cutting laurels and tossing the brush into the canyon.

For six days we were mindful of all the gifts we take for granted.
