Lawn bowling

Is it middle age yet? It can't be, but I played my first few games today. What kind of sport is it that allows drinking on the grass and has enormous ashtrays placed strategically all around the green. Well, I must admit that alcohol didn't help my aim and I went from bad to worse, maybe with a few exceptions confirming the rule. It was good fun though.
