Swanie, How I Love You
I felt in need of a swan today, so I set off for the Watchung Circle Lake after buying some summer shorts and shirts for Mike and Austin at Old Navy and Modells. I didn't see the pair at first glance so I trudged back to my car in a very disappointed mood but still hopeful they might be tucked up around the far side of the lake. It was not to be, and now somewhat worried about where they might have gone, I decided it best to have lunch at the at Thai Thai in Warren while I considered my swan free future.
On the return trip home, I thought I should stop into the Valley Furniture store which is on the Watchung Circle and have a look around. The furniture is very well constructed with price tags well above what I consider reasonable, but I was able to chat a bit with the sales woman and mention that I had hoped to photograph the swans but alas, they were gone.
"Oh, we have another lake!" she exclaimed. "It's just up the road. Do you think they could be there? But how would they get there? They couldn't walk with all this traffic! "
For a brief moment I realized that I wasn't the only airhead in the area. Doesn't she know that birds can fly? They probably flew, I said. Unless someone picked them up and brought them over in a van.
We had a nice chuckle, I said my goodbyes and within a minute I spotted the wonderful sight of the male and female drifting peacefully in solitude at the lake's edge.
I took a ton of photographs and feeling very content knowing they both were safe, I headed for home, hummng a happy song.
