40 acres and a mule
Spent a very happy morning up at the allotment.
These plots are very hard to come by in Brighton. Waiting lists for some sites are over 10 years. So it's wise never to give one up if you have it. In this case, the original holder no longer has the time to maintain it and so Karen and two other friends are allowed to run it as co-workers. I just go along as a bit of extra help.
Allotment society is very hierarchical and has its own rules. We have discovered it goes something like this:
Council - Lord of the Manor
Allotment holder - tenant farmer
Co-worker - lowly farmhand
Co-worker's helper (i.e. me) - mule.
So this picture was taken as the faithful mule was having a rest. It's a lovely spot, near Brighton racecourse and overlooking the city.
