Twirling Wholeheartedly
If you were ever properly instructed on using colored pencils, you were probably told to be patient, and layer the colors without pressing on the pencil. You were likely told that to look "right" to the eye, every green area needs a dash of red, and so on.
I draw with color pencils on thick museum board and such (I get the scraps from the local framing shop). I press with the pencils as hard as I can without them breaking. I don't layer at all, just marvel in the waxy intensity I get when applied this way.
Just don't tell my students.
