People on a Bridge

Here we go again

This is the second time I do this project. Here is the official info:

As we go about our days, we often forget to REALLY see the world around us. We fail to see the everyday wonders, as well as the problems. The camera lens is a very powerful tool for becoming mindful of our surroundings.

Through "My Oktibbeha" program, local children will have a change to learn a bit about photography, but more importantly, to understand the concept of a sense of place. They will show us the beauty they see, which WE might have forgotten, or point out the things that don't work. They will have a chance to tell us all what does it mean to live in the Oktibbeha county, of what we should be proud, and what we should set out to change

The Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum will purchase disposable cameras and distribute them to a group of 8th grade students. The kids will attend a basic photography lecture (covering the workings of the cameras and an overview of successful image composing). They will then be asked to take pictures of their favorite places in the county, with emphasis placed on places or items that are special and unique to our surroundings. The participants will return the cameras to the Museum for developing. "My Oktibbeha" project organizers will then help the students select one or more photographs and write a haiku poem(s) describing their image(s). Finally, the framed 8x10 prints and poems will be displayed at the Museum.

This is my wonderful colleague Megan (one of the 3 official university photographers), in the middle of her fantastic lecture on excellence in photography. Good use for an IPad!

Backblips posted for the last two days.
