The Western Wind
They're an a cappella vocal ensemble from New York, out here in Oz to do a series of concerts and workshops.
Tonight, they sang in one of the Jenolan Caves (arguably the best limestone caves in the world), which are an hour's drive from Blackheath and a very famous attraction.
To get to this cave, they, their modest equipment and the audience had a fifteen minute climb, through narrow tunnels, dripping with stalactites (and water), 65 metres up into this little cavern with its remarkable acoustics.
I have to say they were truly superb. They sang a wonderfully varied repertoire, with intricate close harmonies, perfectly balanced voices and perfectly in tune. They even made Phillip Glass sound good - and that's something I never thought I'd ever say about anybody!
Tomorrow they're doing a 3 hour Vocal Ensemble Workshop here in Blackheath. I can hardly wait!
