Gate to Calder House, Mid Calder.

William Douglas gave as a dowry the barony of Calder on James Sandilands who married his sister Eleanor, Countess of Carrick, only daughter of Archibald Douglas and widow of Alexander Bruce, Earl of Carrick, around the date of 1346. The house has since that time been in the same family Sandilands, later Lords Torphichen. The knighthood was received from King Robert II as a wedding present when his daughter married the son of James and Eleanor. Their castle evolved into the present day Calder House. The present Lord and Lady Torphichen still live in there.
This is the gate into the driveway of Calder House.
