One Day Like This

Winter, spring

Today we witnessed the last conquest of the very wintery sport of speed skating: the World Single Distance Championships. We expected to sing the national anthem at least one time, but were spoilt with the gold medals of both Stefan Groothuis (1K) and Sven Kramer (5K, here doing his lap of honour), not to mention the silver (Kjeld Nuis, 1K; Bob de Jong 5K, Ireen Wüst, 1,5K) and bronze medals (Linda de Vries, 1,5K).

Apparently we, the audience, had something to do with that. But besides cheering our fellow Dutchmen to this great medal count, we also cheered for the Canadians, Americans, Norwegians and even Belgians (actually, especially the Belgians) to do the best they could. Ah, aren't we good sports!

Now it's definitely time for spring, hello!
