The Royal
Today started off the way most of my days have been lately, stressing over the band night, which is tomorrow, and which was supposedly going to be our first gig, but a few hours later I had different things to worry about.
I'd texted our drummer Andy about something completely unrelated, and the reply was not what I expected at all: he's had kidney failure, and has been on dialysis for months, and this morning he got the call saying he was the reserve for a kidney that had suddenly become available.
So poor Andy spent all day in the hospital having loads of blood test and not really expecting anything to come of it, we were still expecting to play tomorrow, but at the usual post band practice pub session (where we were not happy of the potential thought of having to play acoustic versions of everything) we got a text from Jen (his girlfriend and one of our bassists) saying that the first choice for the kidney had got something wrong with him, and that Andy was in theatre getting his new kidney fitted.
So we all piled to the Royal to keep Jen company and generally wait out the 4 hours he was in theatre. He came out ok a little while ago, and so we're all waiting fingers crossed that everything will be ok.
We decided to forgo the gig tomorrow as a sign of band solidarity (if we can't all play we're not going to play at all), Two Drink Minimum will be making it's debut later this year and we'll all be there, and it'll be awesome.
