Bessemer Converters were HUGE

Sheffield has a couple of excellent industrial museums, mostly concerned with steel-making and cutlery.
The Bessemer converter for making better steel was invented here, but not many people realise how big some of them could be! My 8 year-old daughter is at the bottom right side for scale.

It's been a fantastic morning.
