Florencia Bay, Vancouver Island
Leaving Tofino on a beautiful sunny day, we stopped at Florencia Bay for a walk. It was almost deserted. There were huge piles of driftwood, mostly logs which have escaped the rivers. People had built dens along the shore. The waves were really crashing and there was a river to cross. It turned out to be a bit deeper than I had first thought, I got soaking wet jeans!
We struggled to leave the bay but we had to get on to Nanaimo to return the hire car and catch our ferry. We just made the 5pm ferry from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay and we were very glad we did. We had amazingly clear views of the mountain ranges, not a cloud in the sky, and we saw dolphins swim past the boat!
