Ingleborough Triptych
Don't visit Ribblehead for ages, then turn up 2 days running.(well one day running the next walking)
Now Beth is home we decided to go out again as a family to do more birthday stuff. So my choice was a good walk in the dales after a picnic lunch after church. The weather was again more summer than spring, and we had a great afternoon ambling up Whernside.
I got some much better photos of the viaduct with Whernside than yesterday, not running and photo'ing helps. But for a change took this shot of Ingleborough through the the arches of Ribblehead Viaduct.large
Getting up close gives a real sense of the scale. Built between 1870 and 1874 by 1000 "navies" - during its construction 100 of them died, a combination of accidents and smallpox. The local graveyard needed to be extended. Maybe one day I'll snoop around the graveyard, I wonder if they got headstones etc.
