Tortoise and the hare

I think the results are conclusive and the tortoise wins again.

The courgettes under the plastic got off to a great start, raced ahead and looked fantastic a few months back. However all their energy must have gone into long stems as they have produced one courgette each and are now withering away.

The ones inside a tyre but not under plastic have come on slowly but have ended up lower growing but tougher plants which have produced a good crop of courgettes.

Next year I think I will sow the seed inside a tyre but under plastic and then harden them off fairly quickly so they don't get leggy but I will get a longer growing season.
