At the Royal Academy for the Hockney exhibition.

There is a large queue snaking its way around the courtyard in front of where I am standing and I am glad that my ticket means that I don't have to join it.

Straight after seeing the work of Britain's foremost living artist, I'm going to the National Portrait Gallery where there is an exhibition by Lucian Freud, the artist who held the title until he died last year. It promises to be a day of contrasts.
