Fiona
Meet Fiona, she's the new girl, never been on one of our trips before, so we buried her in the snow and left her. Hopefully the other group that were putting up the tent elsewhere would find her. Given our lack of success yesterday in finding Petrina's snow shovel it seems a risky strategy.
With the forecast not great we planned on staying around Lønsdal today. We returned to yesterday's site where Petrina left the snow shovel and duly found it. We then went through pacing exercises to calculate what our own individual ski paces were over 100m under various conditions - useful figures to know when navigating in poor conditions.
Next one group put up our three-man tent, our emergency shelter / hut overflow accommodation. While another group buried Fiona with transceiver, plus another couple of transceivers to simulate three being buried in an avalanche. Then the tent group attempted to find Fiona and the transceivers while the burying group took down the tent.
As you can see from today's photo we managed to find her - I wonder what she's writing!
