1939 Traffic Bridge

I was heading back from a friends place in Fremantle when I decided to see what photo opportunities I could see from the banks of the Swan River at the mouth in Fremantle.

It was interesting to go to parts of the river I have never been before, but no doubt will go back to in order to capture different angles of this old bridge ( old for Perth , that is)

The Fremantle Traffic Bridge marks the site where people have long chosen to cross the Swan River, probably prior to European settlement.

The current structure has been there since 1939, completed just in time for WW2. This was lucky because the previous bridge night not have coped well with the weight of some of the war time traffic.

Fremantle Traffic Bridge (1939) is located at a site which has been a river
crossing point since 1866 when an earlier bridge, associated with the convict era
of Western Australian history was built

In the first years of the Swan River Colony, the river was the main means of
communication between Perth and Fremantle.
