A Summer Evening in March

Feel the magic

I had an awful morning in the office where I seemed to break everything that I touched - in soft rather than hard terms. At lunchtime I gave up trying to fix the very final bit of functionality for the presentation and just removed it! I doubt anyone will actually notice. There was nothing more I could do at that stage. The weather was stunning again and that possibly had something to do with my state of mind. I felt this kind of animalistic urge to be outside in the fresh air as opposed to being at the computer. I think there was some opposing forces having a battle inside my head: the responsible self driven by a strong work ethic at odds with my free spirited self which just wanted to run away to the hills.

Mid-afternoon I got to the point where I knew nothing was going to get achieved by working longer so I hatched a plan to cycle out to meet up with the boys at Burnsall for a walk and a drink. That didn't quite work out as Forrest remembered shortly afterwards that he had an assignment to finish. I guess I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt! It meant that I was free to explore a bit further afield on the bike and I took a route out via Cononley, Carleton, Broughton, Gargrave, Settle and back via the wonderful climb over to Airton, from where this blip was taken.

The evening light was again fabulous and I took stacks of pictures. The area I was cycling in today consisted very much of rolling green hills, sheep farming country, dotted with beautiful trees all cast in the most sumptuous light. I enjoyed 61 miles of heaven! When I first cycled past this tree I was pretty certain this was going to end up as my blip for the day. After not seeing a cloud in the sky all week, this light cirrus started to appear to the north and west, providing the perfect background for this shot. As almost all my shots have been taken over walls and gates it also seemed nicely appropriate to include them here. I'm rather pleased with the photograph in itself, but it's also a good journal shot into the bargain.

Off now to cook dinner and watch The Apprentice with the boys. I hope to begin catching up with some of you later. I'm sorry that my recent full-on days has meant no time at all for my blipmates! I could almost look forward to a cold and rainy day to have an excuse to stay in and socialise.
