A Year Through My Eyes

Sri lanka vs england

So this morning whilst some of the  group went whale watching 3 of us headed into Galle to suss out whether we could get any tickets to the international cricket test match between Sri Lanka and England!  The first friendly member of the barmy army I bumped into, I asked about chances of getting tickets in the shade. By some twist of fate 5 of his friends were no shows so he offered me them 2000rupees cheaper than everywhere else!! Great seats, under cover and view of the pitch and overlooking fort etc.

So whilst we waited for the whale watchers to return, we left the morning session knowing the tickets were sorted and headed into town and through some of the back streets which were full of little coffee shops and antiques dealers. So calm and peaceful right on the coast with the Indian ocean even though there was an International match being played merely meters away! By far my favourite town/city so far on my travels!

Once the group was reformed and lunch was sourced we headed back to the cricket stadium! It took a while for England to get the last batsman out after lunch but with some skilful fielding he was gone! England lost a couple of relatively early wickets but at close of play we were 111-2  so it's just about doable as long as were not silly!  All in all, very glad I went, the atmosphere was great, being from a rugby background it felt very familiar today surrounded by the barmy army! Although some of them really need to learn how to use sun cream! Lobster-esq would be an understatement!  This blip is of the game itself!
