WELL OFF
This is the place that people would gather for there water in EDINBURGH. It was originally built in 1675.Although rebuilt over the years, it is the oldest surviving
cistern .Designed by Sir WILLIAM BRUCE and built by ROBERT MYLNE, surveyor of royal works. The water came from a reservoir at comiston then passed on to a tank at the top of the hill next to to the castle .The water ran down through
hollowed out tree trunks to the well head. The building that had the water tank is now a tartan gift shop , and no one gets water from the street. The building you can see a little of is JOHN KNOX'S HOUSE the religious PROTESTANT REFORMATION leader. Born around 1514 and lived till to 1572.
