Sun wars
Met two women friends for lunch outside (on the grounds that it might be the last chance before August) but the only table was in the shade. We negotiated rights with the waitress to the first table in the sun, so when one came available we ran for it. As did two men from another table. I told them we'd done a deal; they said they'd offered the waitress a bigger tip if they got moved!
Now I'm left trying to work out the power dynamics:
- strength in numbers (us)
- the superiority of males (them)
- the power of money (them)
- speed (us)
- the gilt of youth (them)
- the respect due to age (us)
- waiting longest (us)
Who do you think won, and on what grounds?
(Nothing to do with the pic, which is the Business School again.)
By request, a little background. The Said Business School opened in 2001 and was designed by Jeremy Dixon and Edward Jones, of Dixon Jones. They also designed the refurbished Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and are involved in Phase 2 of the Said Business School - currently being built.
