The Kiltwalk

By thekiltwalk

Step forward Gregor, our hero of the week

It's been a barmy old week and a half in Scotland where "Kiltwalk training" has hit fever pitch, so why is this we wondered?

Well you're never going to believe this, but we think it's the SUN . . . no, not a certain newspaper, but that big orange thing that blazes in the sky around twice a year in Scotland. That's right, that sun!!

Guys have been getting their old jeans out and cutting the legs off them (it's a Scottish thing) and heading out in to the wildness, or Mugdock Park in the case of Susan Campbell and her Fiancé, John Ewan.

If you were to see a picture of John you would realise walking for hours in the sun, with his lack of napper cover, is only going to end in trouble. Suffice to say he'll be 'flaking' away as we speak, but at least the pain and tenderness should have subsided.

Of course they say guys are the dafties, however Susan wasn't much better as she ventured out with the "strappy top" on and if you check her out on Facebook, you'll see she looks "rather well done". At least they'd have been able to rub each other's calamine lotion on.

But fair play to them, I mean who would ever have thought you would be suffering from sunburn, in Scotland, in MARCH!!

Hero of the Week

So I know it's only Wednesday, however I feel it's time for the "Hero of the Week" award and I don't think anyone is going to beat young Gregor Ritchie.

Gregors Mum, Sam and her two pals Rosemary Breingan and Mary Catherine Hamilton (see the Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil picture above) are taking part in the Hampden to Loch Lomond Kiltwalk and to be honest I think they're still in a bit of shock that they've signed up, well Sam seems to be anyway.

Despite the shock, they have been training since February and have managed to walk up to 18 miles in one go, so they're hoping they should be OK. So I won't tell them about the 22 mile wall you hit as that might freak Sam out even further. However when the going does get tough, there's only one person who is going to get pelters and that's Rosie.

Mary and Sam have fingered her as being the person responsible for coaxing them to take part in The Kiltwalk. But wait till you hear this, Mary said that "Rosie is very good at persuading us to do things, normally when we all out drinking!!" so to be honest you deserve what you get. You'll either need to get a new friend, or STOP drinking so much . . . sorry Rosie, I think you're history ?

Mary clearly needs some intensive training before the event on the 8th of April as she has headed to Tenerife for some 'altitude' training and having just come back from there, I should know how high and steep those hills are!!

The ladies work for the Scottish Ambulance Service and are actually all looking forward to the day as there family and friends have been very supportive and are all planning to come along on the day to, cheer them on, and provide plenty of TLC at the finishing line.

So why is Gregor the hero of the week?

Well it's quite simple, on hearing his Mum was taking part in The Kiltwalk, Greg immediately stepped up to the plate and said "Now Mum & Dad are giving me pocket money my first lot is going towards your Kiltwalk".

So step forward Gregor Ritchie and take a bow.

If you want to follow this young man's lead and donate to The Kiltwalk then you can do so via the link shown below.

We wish you well ladies, have a great time and hopefully see you again next year, once the blisters have healed!!
