wind power

Wind power is becoming a big industry here in Wyoming. There are a few issues, though.

1) The grid is not prepared to handle spikes in energy production that happens with wind power.

2) Exporting power to other states is difficult, as you lose power with long power lines (this is why we need superconductors)

3) It can kill bats; big problem for endangered bats.

4) People bitch and moan about it ruining their view. Same thing is happening on the East coast of the US; rich people complaining about their seaside view. Suck it up; it's better than burning coal or oil.

5) It's an expensive investment for personal windmills (like if you live on a ranch) though it tends to pay itself back in 6-10 years, currently. Commercially, new wind costs about as much as new natural gas power.

However, these issues CAN be overcome. The benefits FAR outweigh the problems, in my opinion, and renewable (or at least non-fossil fuel) energy is the way of the future.

Backblipped for friday (the previous blip. I'm slacking.) 200 is coming up with my next blip!
