Sick Pup

I woke up this morning to Prise, my pup, vomiting and shivering. Within 20 minutes we were in the car driving to the emergency animal hospital. Since this was the second incident in the last three months, I requested additional diagnostic tests. Nearly 5 hours and $900.00 later, Prise was diagnosed with pancreatitis.The bad news: Prise is very sick and her pancreatitis is characterized as moderate, but strong pain medication is allowing her to rest pain free. The good news: it is treatable. She'll be on a bland diet for the next 3-5 days and then I will transition her to a low fat diet which will hopefully prevent this from happening again. Unbeknownst to me, terriers (schnauzer's) are at risk for pancreatitis in middle age. Especially those on a high protein diet. She gave me quite a fright today.
