had a great day out in newcastle (well, gateshead and sunderland actually) looking at public art. started off with the angel of the north which is very impressive close up.
set off on one of the many public art trails in the area and spotted this piece by shepard fairey which was definitely my favourite of the day. it is 150 feet long, a stencil art printed banner with these amazing communist propaganda images on it and slogans like "PEACE" and "OBEY". it's just outside the baltic gallery, worth a look.
saw a few really crappy pieces but most of it was entertaining, thought-provoking and was being used and/or looked at by the public! surely that's the only point of "public" art
