I like Inverurie.
When we lived in Aberdeen someone told us that this mound in Inverurie Cemetery covered an intact cottage and it's inhabitants who died of the plague. I don't know how many people I've told this tale to in the last 25 years but it must amount to hundreds!
Today I decided to visit the cemetery for my blip and I discovered the truth on a plaque on the cemetary wall:
The Bass is the 16m high mound towering above the cemetery. The Bass was formed from a relic of the ice age made from sand and silt deposited from a glacier that once covered the area. The Bass was the site of a motte and bailey castle. A wooden pallisade would have been built around the top of the 'motte' to fortify the area.
OOPS!
