No foolin' - this is very nice wine!
On a road trip holiday to Canada's Maritimes in 2009 we discovered this lovely local wine (pronounced "yoast" like toast) which, very sadly (and quite ridiculously), is not available in Ontario. I did try to order a case through the LCBO (our provincial liquor agency) but they wanted more than $500 for a case. I told them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. Why? Because that's about 3.5 times the sticker price. I can understand a modest shipping fee but the rest is import duties. Yes, IMPORT duties from one Canadian province to another! I can buy a case of good wine from the other side of the planet cheaper than a case of good wine from our own country. Madness. So, when a friend goes back East, he may or may not bring back a bottle or so that may or may not end up in my custody...
The wine itself is very lovely and we enjoy it with company and/or with a special dinner such as a prime rib of beef roast or a barbequed sirloin steak.
If you find yourself in Nova Scotia, do visit their winery and bring home a bottle. Cheers!
