Quetzal

Today we moved to the Monteverde region and on our first day hit the avian jackpot by finding a quetzal -- more formally a Resplendent Quetzal. This is considered the highest-ranking trophy bird in the region. It is the national bird of Guatamala and their currency is named after it. The quetzal is a member of the trogon family, and later in the trip we also found a couple of other members of this colorful family.
