Hello Singapore
01.04.12
So leaving Sri Lanka in a thunder storm was interesting, very turbulent flight but some how managed to sleep for the majority of it.
Landed in Singapore at 6am local time and figured I'd venture into the city using the bus......now the bus cost $2 and they only accept exact money, how many cash points do you know that give small denominations?? So the driver was no help but a middle aged lady took it upon herself to get me change for my $10 note marching up and down the bus and then off the bus hounding people for change. When she eventually found someone she then went onto pay for my ticket into the city for me. This was my first real contact with anyone in Singapore and I thought this was an exceptional random act of kindness from a complete stranger!
When I travelled through the city I was perplexed as to how such a big city could be so calm and quiet. Then being the genius I am I realised it was 07.30am on a Sunday morning ! Haha so I found a coffee shop and watched the world go by drinking my first coffee since leaving the UK as coffee in Sri Lanka is mud mixed with water!
I eventually made my way (very slowly with backpack and 30degree heat) up Orchard road which houses every single designer store imaginable (will come back one day when completely minted) and eventually found my hostel.
I ventured out into Little India which was ok but not as amazing as people has made out it was going to be. I think that had I not come straight from Sri Lanka it might have amazed me more. I continued back up towards the centre hitting the supermarket for milk as i haven't had dairy for 2 weeks and might have found a Marks and spencers and got a cheeky pack of Percy pigs lol.
Got back to he hostel and met a guy that is over for work but usually works in and around st Albans?! Small world?? We ventured back up Orchard road for some noodles, which we both admitted defeat on the chop sticks lol. By the time we got back my lack of sleep over the past few days massively caught up with me and I came close to falling asleep up on the roof garden!
This blip was take at sunset from the roof garden of the hostel.
