The great bridge debate
Isn't it infuriating when you know you're right about something but the other person just won't listen?
The facts:
* Many people think that the Sydney Harbour Bridge (bottom photo) was based on the Tyne Bridge (top). This is wrong. The design of the Tyne and Sydney Bridges were in fact derived from the Hell Gate Bridge in New York.
* The construction of the Sydney Harbour bridge started before that of the Tyne Bridge.
* The Tyne Bridge was completed before the Sydney Harbour bridge because the Sydney bridge is much larger.
* The length of the main arch span on the Tyne Bridge is 161.8 metres. The same distance on the Sydney Bridge is 503 metres.
I won't go into too much detail. Lets just say that I was right. (Naturally!)
