Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A Cuddy Wran from Yorkshire.

I'm always impressed with the quite excellent photographs of birds that appear on blipfoto. So, today I decided to have a go myself and this afternoon I managed to bag this wren trying to bag a spider.
As you will probably have guessed, this isn't a real wren but a modern reproduction of a stained glass panel from a 15th century window in the Zouche Chapel of York Minster.
In the Scots language the wren is often known as a cuddy wran. It appears in that fine and encouraging old Scots proverb: All things helps, quoth the cuddy wran , when she pished in the sea.
