A cactus trying to be a canoe

A filthy wet day so no prospect of an outdoor blip. So I played with my macro lens to produce this. I got the idea from an REM song which cropped-up on my iPod shuffle walk yesterday. The song "The Ascent of Man" includes the line "I'm a cactus trying to be a canoe."

I bought this cactus in 2000 just before I started my, just finished, job. It was tiny when bought but has thrived in a dry, air-conditioned environment and become a huge, predatory plant monster.
