Reflection
For almost six years this scenery was on my near-daily commute. Having moved on from that assignment almost eleven years ago I don't often find myself on this route now.
Today I made the trip to pay my respects to a departed friend. On the way home, lost in thought, I reverted briefly to a past life. I can hear the hollow crackle of the radio as I adjust my seat to accomodate a pressing duty belt and aching back: "Huntsville State to all cars... BOLO US 431 southbound near Honeycomb Creek... Red Ford pickup traveling at a high rate of speed..."
Back in reality I glance at my speedometer and smile to myself as I lift my foot slightly.
Old habits die hard.
