Down the 'mine'

My dad and step mum come to Guernsey from Newcastle tomorrow for the Easter holidays, which made me think that I should dust his miners lamp - part of my inheritance! He always inspects this to make sure I am not sold it on!! I had better move it so he can see it still has pride of place in the dining room display cabinet ;)
Thought this would make a nice blip for today - it's incredible to think that he carried this around with him "down the pit" from the age of 14 to 50, when he retired. It weighs a lot - and was used to detect poisonous gases down the coal mine.
