Under the railway bridge
From the canal yesterday, through trees, I spotted a blippable building that I went seeking today. But in trying to get an angle on it I came across a bit of the city I haven't seen before, where the 18th and 19th centuries were clearly once involved in a monumental tussle.
From 1790 the Oxford (to Coventry) canal was highly profitable, with most commercial traffic between London and the Midlands using it. But in 1805 a more direct canal was built, and by the time the railway arrived in the 1840s it flung its bridges over the waterways with disdain - if you want to walk under this bridge you have to duck. But who would want to? It's a neglected place, and clearly now a haunt of neglected people.
There's loads to see and I shall be here again soon!
