Moon Festival

I am not a big fan of the full moon. I can never get it quite right (and I didn't today. I like to see craters and shadows). But... today is Mid Autumn Festival in China. The Moon Festival. So I couldn't choose anything other than a moon pic.

The Moon Festival celebrates Chang E (pronounced Chung Er). A Very famous Chinese lady. I have read a few different versions of her story but this one is in the books at school and I like it the best.

One day, 'many' years ago, ten suns appeared in the sky and were ruining the Earth. A very famous archer named Ho Yi (ho ee) came and shot 9 of the suns from the sky and saved the Earth. The people loved him and so they made him king. In the beginning, he was a very good king but over time he became a tyrant.

There was a legend of some pills made by the medicine elves that could make a person live forever, so Ho Yi send his boats out to look for the pills. He wanted to live forever. One captain, (Captain Chen) found the medicine elves and brought the pills back to Ho Yi. The medicine elves had told him that it would be a bad thing for bad person to take the pills. On his way to the castle to give the pills to Ho Yi, he was trying to work out what to do when he ran into the Ho Yi's wife Chang E. Chang E told him to give her the pills and she would decide what to do. Just at that moment, Ho Yi arrived and in her panic, Chang E ate the pills. Ho YI was very angry and started to chase her. As she was running, she started to float up to the sky and she flew up to the moon. Now she lives on the moon with a rabbit which grinds rice.
