Going Going?

I live in an old town that has become a "New Town". The bandstand, war memorial and church are almost the only recognisable bits of the old town centre left, now some idiot wants to "make the area more attractive" and move the first two of these a couple of miles or so. I'm thinking of starting a rumour that the church will be demolished to make way for yet another office block
