hexagons

Not sure what to blip today - didn't take my camera out on my dog walk this morning, which was unwise, as it was a really beautiful day!
So here is the beginning of a turtle! ??? these hexagons will form the shell of a toy turtle for one of my grandsons! It will be big enough to hug, with a rather sweet, serene little smile (I hope).
I found the pattern in a new book on toys to sew, and as it is ages, decades, since I did any patchwork, I thought I'd have a go. The colours are actually brighter than in this photo - need to get to know my camera better.
