on the cross...

...a love so amazing

on this good friday - day... a reason to celebrate as a christian - jesus chose to die for me... so i honor this day - for him... a tribute to the horrific endurance of his death on a cross - which i cannot fathom myself... but so that we'd see in that cross a love so divine - so amazing - it loves us even if we turn away from it, spurn it, detest it, crucify it... with the cross we can see into the heart of god - the mercy he has for each of us as a sinner... and that the cross has fulfilled what it was meant to do...

jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill scripture he said, "i am thirsty." a jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. when jesus had tasted it, he said, "it is finished!" then he bowed his head and released his spirit. (john 19:28-30)

this is truly the basis of my faith... knowing he died for me... this is why today is a good friday - and why it makes for...
