The Sandwich

I took lots of photos today but nothing stuck out.

All portrait subjects are lined up on thirds and fairly cropped, only showing the head and shoulders. (I really have to get out of this habit)
All landscapes seem bland and stock. (Maybe I am not moved by the scenery as much)
Artsy shots are plainly uninspired and are simple DOF trickery. (Isn't it so easy to focus on near subjects and blur the background? Why yes, yes it is)

I need to practice getting the striking photos that tell a story. My photos feel too 'average' or 'easy'.
Whatever that means...
