64 Meters
Today we visited a local potter in Tianbao which was about a 45 minute ride away. He fires a 64 meter (192 feet) long climbing dragon kiln that has been working since the 1970s. It is a wood fired kiln that they use primarily to create large water containers and roof tiles. The containers are all coil built, and the roof tiles are made with slabs that are formed into cylinders and later broken apart. Some of the containers were around 3 feet tall and came up past my waste, they were pretty impressive. They had just finished firing yesterday so the kiln was pretty toasty and there weren't too many finished pots laying around. We did find a few smaller pots in one of the buildings so I bought my first China pot today! I'm not quite sure how I'm going to get it home, but I have 3 months to figure it out!
